The main computer in the office/ham shack is a custom-built 2.0 GHz Pentium 4, with 60 GB of hard-disk and 1 GB of RDRAM, running under Windows 2000 Professional (SP4). This machine is a hardwired client on a small SOHO 802.11b/g wireless LAN using a Linksys BEFSR41 gateway router and WAP54G access point. A Linksys WSB24 signal booster connected to the access point "fills in the holes" in the RF coverage. The local cable ISP provides broadband Internet service via the router.
The other client is a wireless Acer 5630 laptop, running Windows XP Professional. The wireless LAN allows network access from anywhere in the house or garden.
On the main computer, and Microsoft IIS 5.0 provides intranet WWW and FTP hosting. Microsoft FrontPage, with Server Extensions, is the Web creation toolset. This configuration makes for a very effective website development and test platform.
