It is surely interesting - if difficult - to deduce the characteristics of this new transceiver which Icom have announced in Tokyo without publishing any pre-release product information! To address the keen interest which the announcement has created among radio amateurs, I have attempted to enhance the legibility of the IC-7200's front-panel controls (see image above.) In anticipation of an official information release by Icom, what can now be deduced is very interesting:

IC-7200: A new Icom Transceiver at Tokyo Ham Fair 2007!

The new compact, ruggedly-built IC-7200 100W HF/50 MHz Transceiver, which Icom have presented for the first time ever at Tokyo HamFair, 25 August 2007. Click for front-panel view (courtesy JA7UDE).

At the Icom stand, small pamphlets were distributed, but the manufacturer has not yet issued specifications. According to previous rumours, it was considered likely that Icom would announce a new compact HF/50 MHz radio in response to VS Yaesu in the market segment addressed by the FT-450/FT-950.
